Read email attachments with AI: invoices, spreadsheets and contracts
Quick answer: Ask the assistant to find the conversation and open the attachment: ler_anexo returns CSV, TXT and XML as text, images as images and PDFs as files, up to 5 MB. With that it adds up invoices, compares the new version of a contract with the previous one or builds a table of what arrived this month, without you downloading anything.

Who it is for
For anyone who receives documents by email all day: the finance person checking invoices, the firm collecting statements from clients, whoever negotiates contracts and needs to know what changed between version 2 and 3.
For contracts in PDF, the assistant points out the clauses that changed; the decision is still yours. For spreadsheets exported as CSV, it reads every row as text.
What it looks like
Request: Open the invoice PDFs that arrived in billing@example.com this month and build a table with supplier, number, date and total.

Step by step
- Connect Domailo. To read attachments, "Read only" is enough.
- Say where the documents are: the mailbox, a word in the subject or the sender. The assistant finds the conversations with listar_emails and sees each message's attachments with ler_email.
- It opens each file with ler_anexo. Ask for the output you want: a table, a total, a list of differences.
- Check important numbers against the original document before paying or signing. The attachment link in the webmail is still there.
Ready-to-copy prompts
Swap the addresses and names for yours. The more specific the request (mailbox, time period, what the reply must say), the better the result.
- Add up the invoices that arrived in billing@example.com in October and break them down by supplier.
- Compare acme-contract-v3.pdf with acme-contract-v2.pdf, both attached in the conversation with Mariana, and list the clauses that changed.
- Open the CSV spreadsheet the client sent and tell me which rows are missing a tax ID.
- Read the photo of the receipt Padaria Pão de Mel sent and tell me the amount and the payment date.
- Which conversations this week have a PDF attachment? List sender, subject and file name.
How it changes by type of business
- Accounting firm
- Clients send invoices, CSV statements and photos of receipts. The assistant builds the list of what arrived and what is still missing for each client.
- Legal and contracts
- Compare contract versions sent by the other party and ask for a list of what changed, with each version's clause side by side.
- Purchasing
- Three PDF quotes from different suppliers become one table with price, lead time and payment terms.
Permissions needed
- "Read only" access is enough. Tools used:
listar_emails,ler_email,ler_anexo. - Admins, and people an admin allowed to use AI assistants. Each person sees only the mailboxes they already open in the webmail.
- Included in the Startup, Essential and Team plans and during the trial.
Caveats and limits
- The assistant opens PDF, images (PNG, JPG, GIF and WebP), CSV, TXT and XML. Not Word, Excel, ZIP or other formats: for those it returns a link to download in the webmail.
- The limit is 5 MB per PDF or image; text files are delivered up to 100,000 characters.
- Opening a file does not guarantee a correct reading: scanned PDFs and photos depend on the assistant. Check amounts before paying or signing.
- Attachments are third-party content. Domailo flags that to the assistant, but a document may contain hidden instructions; do not ask it to follow what is written inside the file.
- Through MCP the assistant reads received attachments but does not send files.
Frequently asked questions
Does the assistant read attached Excel spreadsheets?
No. It reads CSV, TXT and XML as text. For .xlsx or .docx files it returns the attachment link in the webmail; ask the sender for a CSV or PDF if you need the assistant to read it.
Can it read scanned invoices?
It reads PDFs and images up to 5 MB, and how well it extracts the numbers depends on the assistant and the scan quality. Structured formats (CSV, XML) are the most reliable.
Are attachments sent to the AI?
Only the attachment the assistant requests with ler_anexo, when you ask. What happens to it afterwards depends on your assistant's data policy.
Do I need write access to read attachments?
No. ler_anexo is a read tool and works with "Read only" access.
