What each record does
Four DNS records decide whether email reaches your domain and whether what you send lands in spam. Google's and Microsoft's sender guidelines ask for SPF and DKIM, and DMARC for bulk senders.
MX
Says where email sent to your domain goes. It should point only to your current provider; an MX left from an old provider splits your mail between the two.
SPF
A TXT record listing the servers allowed to send for the domain. A domain can have only one, so every service that sends for you (email, website, CRM) goes in the same record.
DKIM
A public key published at selector._domainkey.yourdomain. The provider signs each message and the receiver checks the signature with that key.
DMARC
A TXT record at _dmarc.yourdomain that says what to do with mail failing SPF and DKIM: only monitor (none), send to spam (quarantine) or reject it (reject).
What happens to the domain you type
We only read public DNS records, the same ones any mail server reads. We do not store the domain or the results.
Set up email without guessing records
In Domailo, when you add your domain, the dashboard shows the exact MX, SPF and DKIM values to copy and checks the domain for you. To understand each record, see our DNS and deliverability guides.
