Reply to emails with AI and stay in control: drafts you review first

Quick answer: Ask the assistant to read the conversation and save the reply as a draft, without sending. The salvar_rascunho tool stores the reply in the Drafts folder, inside the same conversation. You review it in the webmail and send it, or ask the assistant to send or schedule it with enviar_rascunho. The mailbox signature is added when it is sent.

Who it is for

For people who answer a lot of similar emails (quotes, lead times, order questions) and want to save time without letting the AI talk to customers on its own.

Drafts are the safe middle ground: the AI writes with the context of the whole conversation and a person decides what goes out. It is the workflow we recommend to start with, before allowing direct sends.

What it looks like

domailoconnected via MCPExample with fictional data

Request: Read Camila Rocha's last email and draft a reply confirming the quote for 40 chairs and the 10-business-day lead time. Don't send it.

  • listar_emailsbusca: "Camila Rocha"1 conversation
  • ler_emailconversa: "Quote: 40 chairs"4 messages
  • salvar_rascunhoconversa · para: camila@rochafurniture.comsaved

Draft saved in Drafts, as a reply in the same conversation. Nothing was sent. Review it before sending:

ToCamila Rocha <camila@rochafurniture.com>

SubjectRe: Quote: 40 chairs

Hi Camila! I'm confirming the quote for the 40 chairs, as in last week's proposal. Production takes 10 business days from approval. Shall I go ahead with the order?

Draft

Step by step

  1. Connect Domailo with "Read and write" access. That access also allows sending; what guarantees the review is your request ("don't send") and your assistant's tool approval.
  2. Ask for the draft, saying who the conversation is with and what the reply must contain. The assistant finds the conversation (listar_emails), reads the history (ler_email) and saves the reply (salvar_rascunho).
  3. Open the Drafts folder in the webmail. There you edit the text, add formatting and attach files, which MCP does not send.
  4. Send it from the webmail, or ask the assistant: "send the draft to Camila" or "schedule it for tomorrow at 9 am". It uses enviar_rascunho, and the mailbox signature is added at that point.

Ready-to-copy prompts

Swap the addresses and names for yours. The more specific the request (mailbox, time period, what the reply must say), the better the result.

  • For each conversation in the inbox of support@example.com that is waiting for a reply, save a short, friendly draft. Don't send anything.
  • Draft a reply to Pedro Lima giving the delivery time to Austin (5 business days) and asking for the postal code.
  • Rewrite the draft to Camila in a more formal tone, in five lines at most.
  • List my drafts and send only the one to Camila Rocha.
  • Schedule the draft to Pedro Lima for tomorrow at 9 am Eastern Time.

How it changes by type of business

Support with repeated questions
Paste the company's standard answers (lead times, return policy) into the request and ask the assistant to use them in the drafts. It adapts the text to each conversation.
Sales
Ask for follow-up drafts on stalled proposals: the assistant reads the proposal you sent and writes a reminder that mentions what was agreed.
Team sharing one mailbox
Drafts are personal: only the person who created one sees it. Each person uses their own connection, and sent messages show who wrote them.

Permissions needed

  • "Read and write" access. Tools used: listar_emails, ler_email, salvar_rascunho, enviar_rascunho.
  • Admins, and people an admin allowed to use AI assistants. Each person sees only the mailboxes they already open in the webmail.
  • Included in the Startup, Essential and Team plans and during the trial.

Caveats and limits

  • Drafts are personal: only the person who created one sees and edits it. Colleagues see the reply once it is sent.
  • Through MCP a draft is plain text. If you format it or attach files in the webmail and then ask the assistant to change the text, the formatting done in the webmail is lost.
  • A message goes to one recipient; there is no CC/BCC.
  • To prevent assistant loops, each person can make up to 120 salvar_rascunho calls and 60 send calls every 15 minutes.
  • Sending requires an active plan, a verified domain and access to the mailbox. Scheduling uses the time given with its time zone; when in doubt, name the time zone.

Frequently asked questions

Can the AI reply to customers on its own?

It can, with write access: enviar_email sends immediately. We recommend starting with drafts and only allowing direct sends for simple, repeated cases. Assistants ask for approval before using a tool; keep that approval on for sending.

Does the draft stay in the customer's conversation?

Yes. When the assistant names the conversation, the draft is saved inside it, with the recipient and subject it fills in (usually "Re:" plus the original subject). When sent, the reply joins the conversation history in Domailo.

Is the mailbox signature added to the draft?

It is added when the message is sent, not to the draft. That way, if the admin changes the signature, the message goes out with the current version. The webmail shows a preview of the signature while you review.

Can the AI send attachments?

Not yet. The assistant reads received attachments (ler_anexo) but does not send files. Open the draft in the webmail, attach the file and send it from there.

What if the assistant sends twice by mistake?

enviar_rascunho and enviar_email accept an idempotency key: repeating the call with the same key returns the previous result instead of sending again. The per-person limits also stop loops.
